"These works are part of a larger investigation into the complex nature of play and competition in recreational activities, and its relation to painting as a form of recreation. The aim of this work is to stare down and challenge the notion that intellectual investigations and art as recreation cannot coexist. In using fractured color planes to represent physical objects and real spaces, the surface of the paper becomes a field of play similar to those that we find ourselves on when engaging in competition or recreation."
